Overview:
Golden is a well-established online personality questionnaire drawn from the known theories of personality: Carl Jung's theory of psychological type as well as the principle works of Trait theorists and the "Big Five" model of personality. The instrument was developed by John Golden in the 1980s and is already used by hundreds of practitioners in their L&D work around the world. Golden can be used in a number of applications including: Coaching, Leadership development, Team building, Conflict Management, Improving Communication and Stress counselling.
The Golden Personality Type Profiler™ helps drive higher performance by helping employees understand how they make decisions and relate to others. Unlike simplistic type-oriented assessments, Golden identifies both a Jungian 4-letter personality type and the more complex traits that account for subtle differences between people of the same type.

Questions in the Golden relate to five global preference areas:
- Where you focus your energy
- How you gather information
- How you make decisions
- How you approach life
- How you respond to stress
In addition to the four traditional Jungian areas of preference, Golden contains a fifth global scale, Tense-Calm, based on the "Big Five" trait of Emotional Stability. Tense-Calm looks at stress-related pressures and the degrees of confidence and optimism a person has about their life challenges. The significance of this extra dimension is that practitioners can explore the effects of stress on the individual at the workplace and their likely coping mechanisms which will differ according to their preferences in the global dimensions and facets.
Sub-facets which look at differences within Type
Each global scale includes facet scales that represent more specific components of the global scale. Such specificity is important for understanding differences among individuals who score similarly on the global scales. These facets offer valuable insight in to similarities and differences within the same global type.

The individual report includes the following sections:
- Overall Global Type

- Facet Results
- Communication and Team Working
- Strengths
- Motivation and Learning
- Development Opportunities
- Responses to Daily Stressors
The Golden reports provide insights on personal and team style and can be used in the following interventions:
- Leadership coaching and management development
- Conflict management and stress counselling
- Growth opportunities
- Improving individual and team communication
- Teambuilding and development
- Sales force training
- Identifying team strengths and blind-spots
A key feature of Golden is that for each Global Scale and Facet there is both a numerical score and a strength and clarity preference category for BOTH of the opposite scales in a dichotomy (the preferred and non-preferred behaviour) as the example below shows.

Development of the Golden
The Golden Personality Type Profiler has a long and rich history spanning two generations of psychologists.
In the early 1980's, Ed Golden's company ORA played an integral role in the early development of the MBTI® TDI and EAR versions by funding and supporting much of the validation research. Later, ORA developed an assessment that united the ideas of type, temperament, trait and the Big 5 theories into one survey/report and to make it easy to implement. Ed's son John developed and implemented the plan and created the Golden Personality Type Profiler, which today is known as the most modern and development-oriented type assessment based on Big 5 theories.
